About the Age Calculator

The Age Calculator tells you exactly how old you are, or how old anyone was on a date you choose. Instead of a rough number of years, it breaks the answer into years, months and days, and also shows the same span as total months, weeks, days and hours.

It is handy for forms that ask for an exact age, for checking whether you meet an age limit for an exam, job or insurance policy, for planning birthdays and anniversaries, or just for finding out how many days you have been alive.

How to use the Age Calculator

  1. Select the date of birth in the first field.
  2. Leave the second field on today’s date, or pick another date to find the age on that day.
  3. Press Calculate age.
  4. Read the exact age first, followed by the totals and the number of days until the next birthday.

How it works

The calculator subtracts the birth date from the chosen date one unit at a time. It counts complete years first, then complete months, then the remaining days, borrowing the length of the previous month when the day number is smaller. Total days come from the difference between the two calendar dates, so leap years are handled automatically.

If you were born on 29 February, the next birthday in a non-leap year is counted on 1 March.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate age on a past or future date?

Yes. Pick any date in the second field to see the age on that day, for example to check how old someone was when an event happened or how old they will be next year.

Is my date of birth saved anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to our server.

Why might another calculator show a different number of days?

Months have different lengths, so tools that borrow days in different ways can differ by a day or two. This tool borrows from the month before the chosen date, which is the usual convention.
