About the Date Difference Calculator
The Date Difference Calculator measures the time between any two dates. Use it to count the days to a deadline, the length of a contract, the time since an event, or the number of working days in a project.
The result is shown as years, months and days, and also as total days and weeks. It also counts weekdays, which is handy when planning around Saturdays and Sundays.
How to use the Date Difference Calculator
- Choose the start date.
- Choose the end date.
- Press Calculate difference.
- Read the exact span and the totals. If the end is before the start, the tool swaps them for you.
How it works
The tool counts complete years and months from the earlier date and then the remaining days. The total number of days is the difference between the two calendar dates. Weekdays are counted by checking each day from the start date up to, but not including, the end date and skipping Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not excluded.
Frequently asked questions
Is the end date included in the count?
No. The count runs from the start date up to the end date, so the same day twice gives zero. Add one day if you want to include both dates.
Does it take public holidays into account?
No. Holidays differ by country, so only weekends are skipped in the weekday count.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. It uses real calendar dates, so 29 February is counted when it falls within the period.
