About the Image Resizer
The Image Resizer changes the width and height of a picture. Use it to fit a profile photo to a required size, prepare images for a website or social media, or shrink a photo before emailing it.
You can set exact pixel dimensions or scale by percentage. With the aspect ratio lock on, changing one side adjusts the other so the picture is not stretched.
How to use the Image Resizer
- Choose an image or drag it onto the box.
- Enter a new width or height, or enter a percentage.
- Pick the output format and quality.
- Press Resize image, check the preview and download the result.
How it works
The tool draws the picture onto a canvas of the new size using your browser’s high-quality scaling and then saves the canvas in the format you chose. When the aspect ratio is locked, the second side is calculated from the original proportions so the picture is not distorted.
Making an image larger cannot add detail that was not there, so enlarged pictures can look soft. For best results, resize down rather than up.
Your files stay private
This tool works entirely inside your browser. The files you choose are read and processed on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers, so your documents and pictures remain private.
Frequently asked questions
What does lock aspect ratio mean?
It keeps the width and height in proportion so that the picture is not squashed or stretched when you change one of them.
What is the maximum size I can create?
The tool limits output to 8000 pixels on either side so that your browser does not run out of memory.
Which output format should I pick?
Use JPG for photos, PNG for graphics and screenshots or when you need transparency, and WebP for the smallest web-friendly files.
